Strictly Come Dancing darling Johannes Radebe captivated audiences with his talent. Then, he captivated hearts with his story. From Zamelda township to the world, South Africa’s star is rising again and is set to have a movie made on his life:
Global (08 February 2024) — From Zamelda township in the Free State to the world, the story of the talented dancer and choreographer Johannes Radebe is set to be told on the silver screen!
Johannes first hopped onto entertainment radars after he worked his way to become a Strictly Come Dancing South Africa darling where he wowed local audiences and made the finals twice. Thereafter, he took the opportunity to go to the United Kingdom where he joined the OG Strictly Come Dancing as a professional dancer and got to shine in historic moments (like being in the show’s first male couple) and routines that oozed South African energy.
But Johannes’ story has captivated audiences almost as much as his dancing finesse. Under the glitz and glamour he so effortlessly presents is the telling of a boy who had to make it out of Zamelda, born into the curtails of oppression.
Despite the challenges of an upbringing touched with poverty and the constant fear of being gay in a conservative community, Johannes pushed on toward his dreams, carried forward by his mom and those who believed in him.

In fact, the dreamer’s story is so captivating, it became a Sunday Times Bestseller last year. “Jojo: Finally Home – My Inspirational Memoir” is now set to be told in another way—as a film which Johannes will also be part of producing!
Per Deadline, the film is set to be produced by Helena Spring Films (Helena Spring has produced Oscar nomination-worthy productions before), will encompass musical notes and of course, dance routines choreographed by Johannes.
