Cape Town-based Dr Siyamak “Siya” Saleh has won a Content Creator Award for Cause/Social Commentary—a breath of fresh air in social media land!

South Africa (14 September 2023) — Not all content on social media has the same impact, purpose or level of helpfulness. And unless you’re a puppy influencer spreading adorableness across the internet, your content’s value is a lot like art–tied to the perspective of the beholder. So, when content is awarded, it matters a lot to the creators behind it and when said content is intended to be helpful and received as such, it matters even more to those who get to enjoy it—like that of Dr Siya.

If you haven’t met Dr Siya on YouTube or TikTok yet, you’d be forgiven for wondering what a doctor goes viral for. The answer is what has built a social media career for Dr Siyamak Saleh—helpful and entertaining health tips!

Dr Siyamak Saleh, a medical doctor based in Cape Town was recently awarded the DStv Content Creator Award for Cause/Social Commentary. This is for his dedication to bridging the gaps in reproductive and sexual health education in a quick, easy-to-follow fashion, providing knowledge not everyone can afford to access.

From debunking medical myths to breaking stigmas around HIV and Aids and providing all-important education on women’s and men’s health, Dr Siya has built an impressive repertoire of content helpful not only to South Africans but to a fan base of nearly 3 million people from around the world on TikTok alone.

Dr Siya’s local win is a big moment for his career as a social media influencer and stands proudly alongside his many medical achievements including collaborating with the World Health Organization and working with the Western Cape and National Department of Health.

His work is a reminder that social media might be something of a content lucky packet, but beyond the flashy picks, there are helpful treats of good!
