MOT was dedicated to mental health development in young people before it was mainstream. Recently, MOT coaches gathered to refresh their skills and we thought we’d share a refresher about MOT.

South Africa (3 April 2023) — MOT South Africa began changing young lives in 2008. As an award-winning Non-Profit specialising in life skills and mental health development among the youth, their work is constantly changing the minds of tomorrow in the best way.

What is MOT All About?

MOT helps make masters of life, giving courage to young people where they need it most. Importantly, it also promotes safe class environments where all are included, and where bullying and exclusion are never okay. In short, MOT is all about helping young people stand up for themselves with a set of values that will ground them in strength.

MOT Coaches

Coaches can be a teacher, volunteer or lecturer focused on giving young people an overlooked education—conscious life choices!

What Has MOT Been Up To Recently?

Recently, MOT Coaches’ Implementation Review and Refresher Workshops went underway in both the Western and Eastern Capes.

For the WC, the workshop brought together 39 MOT Coaches from Stellenbosch to Grassy Park to refresh their skills and prepare them to empower resilient and inclusive youth.

In the Eastern Cape, the magic was refreshed in Burgsdorp.

In both Capes, the workshops aimed to equip MOT Coaches with all the skills (and motivation) needed to make a difference in the young lives they serve.

Focus was placed on mental health, and how important it is for young people to have a safe space to share their thoughts and feelings.

“By emphasizing the importance of mental health, the MOT programme aims to create a holistic approach to empowering the youth and developing active citizens, role models, and leaders.”—MOT.

The acronym ‘P-YIS’ is also a slice of importance for their training, and we can all keep it in mind: Passionate, Youthful, Innovative, and Sincere, that’s the way to be when coaching a young person in need of guidance.

Naturally, the feedback received from the Coaches in attendance emphasized the importance of ongoing support and motivation in creating a positive impact on the youth. Some of the comments included:

“Let’s not stop making a difference.”

“Thank you for your ideas of implementation, and I will take it.”

“MOT made me young, and I’m ready.”

“I love that we are a family and have a network to contact for tips.”

“Work collaboratively and don’t forget to have fun.”
