Tyla has won the 2024 Grammy for Best African Music Performance with her hit song “Water,” marking a significant milestone in her incredible career.

 

Los Angeles, United States of America (05 February 2024) – In a moment that left her almost speechless, Tyla Laura Seethal, known simply as Tyla, clinched her first Grammy Award at the youthful age of 22.

“What the heck?!??!” exclaimed the South African artist upon hearing the news of her win for the 2024 Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance with her hit track, “Water.”

Yes! Tyla has won her first Grammy!

This victory marks a significant milestone not only in Tyla’s burgeoning career but also in the recognition of African musical talent on a global scale. The inaugural year of the Best African Music Performance category showcased the richness and diversity of the continent’s music scene, featuring esteemed nominees such as Asake and Olamide, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, and Davido featuring Musa Keys.

Amongst these talented artists, Tyla emerged triumphant, highlighting her exceptional artistry and the resonance of her music.

“I never thought I would say that I won a Grammy at 22 years old. If you don’t know me, my name is Tyla and I’m from South Africa.”

Originally from the vibrant city of Johannesburg, Tyla’s journey to success has been nothing short of remarkable. Since signing with Epic Records in 2021, she has captivated audiences with her distinctive sound and authentic singing.
