Waitress Liz Woodward covered the bill of two firefighters that came in after a harrowing shift; in return, they held a fundraiser in her father’s honour.

New Jersey, United States (21 August 2015) – After a long night on the job, New Jersey firefighters Paul Hullings and Tim Young stopped at a diner looking for a hot meal. What they got was much more.

It was in the middle of the night, so Young and Hillings started talking to their waitress, Liz Woodward. After learning that they spent his night putting out a massive warehouse fire in North Brunswick – she decided to pick up the $15 tab.

“After 12 hours fighting a warehouse fire & supplying water, we hadn’t eaten so went for breakfast to the route 130 diner in Delran. Well, the waitress overheard us talking and this is what she set down instead of the bill. Such a selfless and kind act. I definitely urge my friends to make a trip out and support the business, and if Liz happens to be your waitress, tip big.”

“I started tearing up and it made me feel good – us firefighters are wanted, people care about us,” he told the local news outlet.”

But that’s not where this story ends. Her simple but generous act inspired the firefighters to pay it forward.

After doing some research, they learned that Liz was trying to raise money for her quadriplegic father, who was in need of a wheelchair-accessible van, both Paul and Tim decided to help out.

Paul said they will do whatever they could to help, including holding a fundraiser.

Since posting their story online, the GoFundMe page set up by Liz had exceeded its planned amount by over $60 000.

Liz’s family were incredibly humbled by what had happened and plan to always pay random acts of kindness forward…

“Our family has witnessed an outpouring of love and support from around the world, and I want to thank each and every one of you beautiful human beings for making this dream possible!
