The SPAR Women’s Challenge is back for 2024 and the Mother City is kicking off the 5km and 10km races this March.

South Africa (19 February 2024) – Gone are the days of doing laps around your garage to stay fit or raise funds for charity. The SPAR Women’s 10km Challenge Series is back in physical format to be run or walked throughout the country this year.

The series kicks off in Cape Town on Sunday, 24 March. Women from the Mother City and surrounding areas will be running the Cape Town leg of South Africa’s ‘Most Beautiful’ race in the Green Point area. Entrants are expected to line up in their thousands at the start, which is close to the Cape Town stadium, for the 10-kilometer run or walk or the 5-kilometer fun run.

As the other events are launched, we will be sure to keep you posted!

“We are so happy that we can host this event in our beautiful Mother City,” says Elsabe van Zyl-Felix, Advertising Manager for SPAR Western Cape and Namibia.

The theme for this year’s SPAR Women’s Challenge is #ChooseYou, with the underlying message of looking after oneself.

“The theme encourages you to focus on, just that, you. This is not an empty, self-centred way of looking at yourself. Instead, we with you, want to pause and think about ourselves. Who we are, what we stand for and where we want to be. To realise and celebrate our worth as women,” says Van Zyl – Felix.

Entries are online at www.sparwomensrace.co.za. It costs R160 to enter. This includes an entry pack with your race number, the very collectable SPAR t-shirt, a peak, and a magazine – all packaged in an attractive reusable bag.

Numbers have been capped at 14,000, so participants are encouraged to get their entries in as soon as possible so as not to miss out. A race medal which can later be used as a keyring, and a packed goody bag are available for all finishers on race day.

“Nationally the SPAR Group is committed to enabling healthier communities in South Africa. In the next few years, we will focus our sponsorships and community support on three key areas: nutrition, which includes feeding schemes and food security, education, and women’s empowerment,” says Sean Komlosy, Marketing Director SPAR Western Cape and Namibia.

For every entry received, SPAR will donate a pack of sanitary pads, which will be distributed via their Petals Project in partnership with various charities across the country. As part of the Group’s End GBV campaign, the Saartjie Baartman Centre for women and children, based in Manenberg, will also benefit.

Popular rapper, EarlyB will entertain at the prize-giving after the event. In addition to substantial category prizes, fabulous lucky draw prizes are up for grabs. Those that stay for the prize-giving after the run, stand the chance to win a grand lucky draw prize of R 30,000 worth of SPAR vouchers. They also stand the chance of winning a car.
