Johannesburg, South Africa (18 March 2016) – Here’s a hilarious throwback to 2013, when South Africa staged the first Holi One festival.
Holi is a popular ancient Hindu festival, also known as the Festival of Spring, the Festival of Colours or the Festival of Love. The festival celebrates the eternal and divine love of Radha Krishna. It also signifies the triumph of good over evil… but in South Africa, the message seemed a little lost in this 2013 festival.
In 2013, South Africa hosted many Holi festivals and while massively popular, the event was strongly criticised as the bastardisation of the sincere beliefs and traditions of followers of Hinduism. A video was posted highlighting just that, which quickly went viral.
The short video was shot at the “We Are One” festival at Emmerentia Dam entirely on iPhone 4S by Nas Who and Jordan Koen, and featured interviews with festival-goers who are a potent mixture of moronic and sharply sarcastic.
The video captured the funny side of how the majority of the festival-goers had no idea what Holi One actually was about & amid the madness, introduced us to the Yellow Hand Print Guy… the voice of reason for all South Africans!
