South African Paralympian medalist and World Record Holder Louzanne Coetzee is getting ready to compete at the Paris Paralympics, and Profmed is joining her along the journey.

South Africa (15 February 2024) – What does it take for an athlete to prepare for the Paralympics? South African Paralympian medalist and World Record Holder Louzanne Coetzee, in partnership with Profmed, takes us on a journey of her Path2Paris, preparing to represent South Africa at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris, France.

Touted as one of the most successful Paralympians from Tokyo2020, Louzanne Coetzee has been training for another year of hopeful success.

One of the significant parts of any athlete’s career is sponsorship to help them get as far as they can. In Coetzee’s case, the partnership has come in the form of support from her very own medical aid – Profmed – the medical aid provider for professionals across South Africa.

To boost her medal prospects, Profmed has created an inspiring series of Coetzee’s Path2Paris to rally South Africans and get them behind the talented South African athlete.

“As a T11 or visually impaired athlete, Louzanne epitomises the tenacity and grit of the South African spirit, and her competing in the 1500m and marathon events – with a guide – is akin to the Profmed metaphor: We are the professional behind the professional.” – Craig Comrie, Profmed Principal Officer

Bloemfontein-born Coetzee has faced the odds, defying the challenges of being visually impaired and chased her dreams with fierce determination. She started her Paralympic athletics career at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein after being encouraged by friends to embrace the world of athletics. She shone brightly in athletics, and soon, the track was her new way of life.

In 2018, she shattered her own world record, surpassing her original time by 13 seconds, proving that her commitment to continually improving her competitive edge was working.

Profmed has seen this unwavering dedication and is keen to invest in it; helping Coetzee take her career to the next level!

“I’m so grateful for Profmed’s support not only on my Path2Paris in 2024, but day in and day out as a long-standing Profmed member myself. Through injuries and triumph I feel confident with knowing Profmed is behind me all the way!” – Louzanne Coetzee.

The Path2Paris isn’t all highs and good days; the series also features Coetzee’s trials and tribulations in the build-up to the most important races of her professional career. Her journey is our journey, and we hope to follow it every step of the way.

“Anything great is achieved through teamwork, collaboration and the transfer of skills and knowledge.”

“No one becomes a champion, in any field, without resilience, mental fortitude and strong partnerships. There is an army of people behind every success story.” – Craig Comrie, Profmed Principal Officer
